Precambrian Time/Era

Precambrian Era
Not much is known about the environmental conditions in the Precambrian era due its sheer age. Many of its rocks have been weathered away or morphed into a new rock altogether. What is known though, is that there may have been several glacial periods, going all the way to the equator creating a "Snowball Earth." We also know that the atmosphere of the young Earth was inhospitable to life as we know it due to the utter lack of oxygen in its atmosphere. When life did evolve, it had to develop in the water to live, until photosynthetic bacteria began producing enough oxygen during photosynthesis, for life to be able to evolve on land.
